![]() ![]() Upon arrival, Nick guides the reader through the extravagant home of Gatsby, using present tense verbs to allow the reader to feel as if they, themselves, are walking through millionaires’ paradise. ![]() Nick is introduced to Gatsby after receiving an invitation to one of his costly parties tailored to members of the social elite. The narrator, Nick Carraway, first recounts how he rented a small house on the East Egg, unaware that the property next door was home to the illustrious Jay Gatsby. ![]() Scott Fitzgerald to represent the imperfections of this decade, born in an age riddled with elitism and debauchery. Each character is perfectly moulded by F. Set in the Roaring Twenties, The Great Gatsby is reminiscent of the social and cultural dynamism of 1920s America. The shop is now full of some excellent reviews, and books are flying off the shelves. There are always new books at City Walls Books and Music, and what better way to spark interest in them than by reviewing the best ones, and possibly writing those reviews on pieces of card and putting them next to books, in a way that is not at all copied from Waterstones? This has been the task of Lorna, who started with City Walls Books and Music a few weeks ago as a Work Based Learning student from the University, and she has done a good job. ![]()
